Kainuun Etu Oy on partnerina SCIENCE LINK projektissa, joka vahvistaa PK-yritysten tutkimus- ja kehitystoimintaa Baltic Region Interreg IV B -rahoituksen kautta. Mukana on 19 partneria 9 euroopan maasta. Hanke kestää 2,5 vuotta 2012-2014, budjetin ollessa 3 900 000 €.

Kainuun Etu Oy is partner in the Baltic Region Interreg IV B project SCIENCE LINK. SCIENCNE LINK project is about strengthening the operational links between SMEs and R&D research activities in all areas of the Baltic Sea Region, and of facilitating the SMEs access to world level research options. The project lasts 2,5 years, 2012 – 2014, and has a budget of about 3 900 000€. The lead partner is DESY (Deutsches Elektronen Synchrotron, HAMBURG, DE).

One research focus of SCIENCE LINK is material research. Kainuun Etu Oy is the SME –coordinating partner and the University of Turku, Physics Department is the research-coordinating partner. In this context, Kainuun Etu plans to cooperate with 4-5 SMEs that have proved material research needs and are interested in benefitting from the international and high quality material research options offered by SCIENCE LINK. Suitable SMEs are businesses that need material research in the metal, plastic, or wood areas. Pasi Puhakka is taking care of the contacts with the companies.

Organisation of the work: SCIENCE LINK budget supports the contacts of businesses to research organisations. Pilot actions are planned based on open calls operational at regional and interregional levels. A project committee will be set up to formulate the criteria for the open calls & monitor the implementation of the pilot actions. The pilot actions will be in the form of cooperation projects between businesses active in the metal, plastic, or wood industries and material research institutions. A detailed needs assessment survey will map the potential of local businesses to benefit from the pilots organised by SCIENCE LINK. In Kainuu, we plan to start the needs assessment very early in the project that might lead to research-based product development. The actual product development will be ensured by local SF funding.
